Weekend Home
Laughlintown, PA

Size: 3,800 square feet

Services: Architecture

This new, private residence sits on an 11 acre parcel bordering a major stream.

The architectural design draws its geometry and materials from nearby farm structures having simple, traditional forms and natural materials. Massing of the house is a series of offset, stepped elements, which reduces the apparent size of the house when approaching it.

Exterior materials are brought indoors. Stone and wood dominate the "Great Room" and compliment the owner's antique furnishings.

The entry side of the house is private with small windows framing views into the woods and forest beyond. The back side of the house is open, with exterior living areas focusing on the open lawn area to the stream.

The house is constructed in a flood plain area and is raised two and one half feet above grade by a rustic stone plinth of landscape walls.
