North Hills High School Library
Pittsburgh, PA

8,663 square feet - Architectural design renovations to a high school library

The North Hills School District sought to adapt their high school library to enhance the learning experience and establish the library as more than just access to information.

The renovations were designed to serve as the "college student union" and provide the resources to prepare students for college and/or their career. A number of students use the library as an extension to the school day; doing homework or engaging with friends until practice or work time. The library also has to serve as the location for evening events.

Reorganizing included a distance learning lab, areas for classroom discussion in the open section of the library, reference book and periodical area for research and rooms along the exterior wall, which facilitate small group meetings, studio/audio production and a mini TV studio.
