The Watson Institute decided to vacate its business of adult healthcare and focus on the original mission of educating those with autism spectrum disorder, neurological impairments and other developmental disabilities.
A decision was made to incorporate the "Carriage House", a century old building and the last original structure remaining. The "Carriage House" provided a guide for the architectural style which can be viewed as informal and vernacular.
The new facility is sited to preserve the open, gracious and rural character of The Watson Institute's site. The building is not intended to be monumental or institutional, rather more residential in scale.
